I was honored and delighted to deliver a lecture last week at the American University of Beirut (AUB), at the kind invitation of the School of Computing and Data Sciences, entitled “Are Large Language Models (LLMs) All You Need for Qur’an QA and Essay Scoring?“. The lecture discussed the studies conducted by our research team (bigIR) at Qatar University on the use of these models in these two tasks, their performance, and how to develop them to suit these applications.
The lecture was delivered to a group of professors and graduate students at the university, as part of a workshop entitled “Do Large Language Models (LLMs) Subsume Arabic Language Tasks?“. A number of leading researchers in the field of Arabic language processing participated in the workshop.
Many thanks to Dr. Fadi Zaraket and his team of professors and students for their fruitful initiative, valuable invitation, generous hospitality, and excellent organization.
