Biography
Dr. Usman Abubakar is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice, College of Pharmacy, Qatar University. He obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria in 2011. Usman worked for some years and gained valuable experience in hospital, community and administrative pharmacy before starting his Master of Clinical Pharmacy degree in 2014. He completed his Masters and PhD in Clinical Pharmacy at Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2015 and 2018, respectively. During his PhD programme, Usman worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Discipline of Clinical Pharmacy, Universiti Sains Malaysia, where he provided experiential pharmacy training to undergraduate pharmacy students. After obtaining his PhD degree, he worked briefly as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Poison Centre, Universiti Sains Malaysia before joining the International Islamic University Malaysia as an Assistant Professor in September 2019. He has garnered valuable experience in teaching and coordinating undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy courses in the last 5 years. Dr. Usman has successfully supervised one Master of Clinical Pharmacy student, and he currently has four PhD students under his supervision. His research interests include clinical pharmacy practice, antimicrobial utilization, antimicrobial stewardship, antimicrobial resistance, and healthcare associated infections. Dr. Usman Abubakar has published over 40 articles in peer-review international journals, and has served as a reviewer for several international pharmacy journals. He is also an Editorial Board Member for BMC Medical Education, and is a Member of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). He has been a subcommittee member for the Early Career Pharmaceutical Group (formerly Young Pharmacists’ Group) of the FIP since January 2021 and he serves as the Professional Innovation Grant Coordinator. Dr. Usman has substantial experience in teaching and mentoring both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
