I’m very pleased (and excited!) to announce that I just got a new accepted 3-year NPRP research grant (funded by Qatar National Research Fund) on my proposal titled “Dimension-Specific Automated Scoring of Arabic Language Writing Proficiency”!

Our goal is to build an automatic scoring system for the quality of students’ writing abilities (on different aspects) in standard exams (similar to IELTS or TOEFL) for *Arabic* إن شاء الله.

I’m proud that the project team is entirely based in Qatar: Dr. Houda Bouamor, PhD (CMU-Q) and Dr. Walid Massoud (QU), with complementary expertise in Arabic NLP, IR, applied ML, and psychometrics and standardized testing.
