Sergio Crovella, completed his PhD in Molecular Anthropology at the Universities of Florence (Italy) and Strasbourg (France). After 2 post docs, one at Embryology Department of Lotus Pasteur University, Strasbourg (France) the second at the Department of Human and Animal Biology, University of Turin (Italy) he worked as R&D at Perkin-Elmer Applied Biosystems (Foster City, USA) developing in situ PCR technology.

In 1998 he was hired as Assistant Professor of Human Genetics at Trieste University (Italy). He worked as human geneticist at the Children Hospital Burlo Garofolo at Trieste (Italy) from 2000 to 2007.

In 2007 he was recruited by the Federal University of Pernambuco, Recife (Brazil) as Full Professor of Human Genetics. 

Currently he is Professor of Genetics at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, Qatar University
