Prof. Rafael Dean Brown is an artificial intelligence law and legal skills expert. He received his Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and his B.A. English (magna cum laude) from Case Western Reserve University. He joined the Qatar University College of Law in 2015, where he teaches Legal Skills and Methodology, Legal Writing II, Environmental Law, Business Law and Ethics, and Drafting Business Contract. He serves on the Qatar University Faculty Senate (Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs). Prof. Brown is also a Jean Monnet Module Convenor in the Doha Courses on EU Law.
In his prior teaching appointment, Prof. Brown was Assistant Director of Academic Support at the Case Western Reserve University School of Law’s LL.M. in U.S. and Global Legal Studies Program, where Prof. Brown taught legal research, writing and analysis to foreign trained lawyers from over 60 different countries in a span of over nine years. He was also Adjunct Professor of Law for four years teaching U.S. Evidence Law. Additionally, he co-taught the Foreign Graduate Seminar and Doing Business in the U.S.A. Prof. Brown was also the Director of the Summer Language and Law Institute, and the Case-Nyenrode Business Law Program at Case Western Reserve University School of Law for over ten years.
In addition to teaching at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Prof. Brown has conducted training programs in India, Sri Lanka, the U.S.A., and the Philippines on the legal process outsourcing industry. He has served as the Chief Knowledge Officer for an Indian legal process outsourcing firm. He was also a Director and Advisor for a Sri Lankan legal process outsourcing, and created the first LPO Academy in Sri Lanka. As an entrepreneur, he was the Founder and Owner of a retail store, an IT start-up, and a digital media start-up.
Prof. Brown is also a Member of the Ohio Bar. He practiced law in Cleveland, Ohio for over twelve years and was Managing Partner at Brown, Zydorek and Kats LLP, where his practice focused on civil litigation, employment law, personal injury, real estate, franchising, and start-ups.
Prof. Brown has been a presenter at the Global Legal Skills Conference in Chicago, Illinois; Legal Writing Institute Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia; the LWI One Day Workshop; the New England Consortium of Legal Writing Teachers; and number of other conferences.
