Dr. Muftah El-Naas is a Research Professor at the Gas Processing Center, College of Engineering, Qatar University. He served as the Director of the Center and QAFCO Chair Professor. He obtained a B. A. Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Canada, M. Eng. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from McGill University, Canada. Prof. El-Naas previously served as Chair of the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department, Director of the Petroleum Science and Engineering Graduate Program, and Director of Research Funding at the UAE University, UAE. Dr. El-Naas authored more than 200 papers in international journals and conferences, in addition to several book chapters and patents. His areas of expertise include CO2 capture and sequestration; biotechnology; water treatment and purification; membrane separation; and plasma technology. Dr. El-Naas is a member of the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineers, a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and a senior member of the Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society. He is a recipient of several awards, including the UAE University College of Engineering Best Performance Award for Excellence in Scholarship (2008 and 2015) and the Asian Education Leadership Award in Chemical Engineering for two years (2013 and 2014).
