Dr Faris is currently an Associate Professor in Architecture at Qatar University. He mainly teaches Year 3 Design Studio as well as Design Methods & Theories course for the undergraduate students.
He holds a PhD from Kyushu University, Japan in the field of architectural engineering (2005) and completed a graduate certificate in Tertiary Education Management from LH Martin Institute, University of Melbourne (2016). He completed his architecture training at the School of Housing Building & Planning (HBP) at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia in 1997.
On the research front, Faris has concluded a dozen of research projects amounting MYR 4.3 million. He has successfully supervised twelve PhD graduates and seven Master’s graduates by research. He has also been an external examiner for more than 25 PhD and Master’s (by research) thesis examinations. He has published more than 130 papers in cited journals and indexed conference proceedings, in addition of a book and a few book chapters. He has been speaking in various Architecture | Engineering | Construction [AEC] conferences and invited as Visiting Professor to universities in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, China, UK and Norway.
Dr Faris hobby is reading and travelling. And it will be a bonus to do both at the same time if time permits!
Dr Faris aspiration is always to become a Murabbi that touches the heart and inspires his students in the execution of their architectural studies and practices.
