Mehdi Jerad

Mehdi Jerad is an associate professor in modern history at Qatar University since 2019. He is a historian of Early Modern and Modern Tunisia. He obtained his first history degree at the University of Tunis (Faculté des sciences Humaines et Sociales deTunis) where he also obtained his PhD in 2009. Prior to joining Qatar University, he was an associate professor at Sousse University (2017-2020) and Assistant professor (2012-2017).  

His research interests are mostly in the “History of Mediterranean Economies and Societies” with special emphasis on the social and diplomatic history of modern Tunisia, in particular, the 18^th and 19^th centuries. His recent publications include,  La correspondance de Jean Antoine Molinari, consul suédois à Tunis 1764-1778 (introduite et annotée), Tunis, 2015 ; Les marchands de la cour dans la régence de Tunis (fin xviii^e-début xix^e siècle),  Tunis, 2017 ; « Étienne Famin, “chargé d’affaires américain” à Tunis : entre enjeu identitaire et logique clientéliste (fin xviii^e-début xix^e siècle) », Cahiers de la Méditerranée, n^o 94, 2017 ; (in colloboration with Hafedh Ben Hassine), Le journal de Suleiman agha, envoyé du bey de Tunis à Paris en 1777, Tunis, Dar Al Massira, 2020.
