Md Mizanur Rahman is a Research Associate Professor and Graduate Faculty in the Gulf Studies Program and Center, College of Arts and Science, Qatar University. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Sociology from the National University of Singapore (NUS), for which he was supported by the prestigious NUS research scholar award and the United States’ Social Science Research Council (SSRC) fellowship. Prior to joining Qatar University in 2018, Dr Rahman served various institutions including Asia Research Institute (NUS, Singapore), 2005-2007, Department of Sociology (NUS, Singapore), 2007-2011, Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS, Singapore), 2011-2015, and University Brunei Darussalam (UBD, Brunei Darussalam), 2015-2018. He was a visiting scholar in Canada, Japan, and South Korea. In his research and teaching, he focuses on area studies, migration, and development in the context of the Arab Gulf States. His research sites are interregional, encompassing the Arab Gulf States, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. His research publications include twelve books, thirty-five journal articles and fifteen book chapters. His books have been published by reputed academic publishers like Oxford University Press, Palgrave Macmillan, Routledge, and Springer Nature, among others. As a researcher, he has consistently endeavored to conduct cutting-edge research in his field of expertise. As a result, his four articles were ranked as the top ten cited and/or downloaded articles in ISI journals in various years. Dr Rahman is an editor of three Springer Nature and Palgrave Macmillan book series (Springer Nature Gulf Studies Series, Springer Nature South-South Migration Series, and Palgrave Macmillan Mobility and Politics Series) and sits on editorial board of several international journals. He was a member of Migration Research Leaders Syndicate for the 2018 Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, formed and spearheaded by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) – the UN Migration Agency based in Geneva. In 2024, he was awarded the Research Excellence Award in the Humanities and Social Sciences by the College of Arts and Sciences of Qatar University. His current research focuses on the shifting epistemologies in Area Studies, Gulf migration, and social and culture issues in the Arab Gulf States
