Dr. Michael Ewers is a geographer who studies processes of international migration, human capital acquisition and urban development, with a regional specialization in the GCC. More specifically, his research examines how places attract and utilize global human capital and foreign knowledge to generate local development capacity. It also studies the ways in which international migration flows interact with local labor market and urban growth dynamics. His work at SESRI focuses on geographical visualization of individual-level survey data through GIS mapping. Ewers’ research has been published in numerous international journals, such as Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Progress in Human Geography, Geoforum, Urban Geography and The Geographical Journal. His research has been supported by grants from U.S. National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education.
