Dr. Khalid Abualsaud, Ph.D. SMIEEE

Biography

Khalid Abualsaud is an IEEE [M’14 and SM’15], obtained a B.S. degree in Systems and Computer Engineering in 1988, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University Utara Malaysia in 2009 and 2015, respectively. Currently, he is a Lecturer of CE with the College of Engineering at Qatar University. He was one of the committee team members who received the ABET accreditation in 2011 and 2017, and currently, he is working with the committee of quality assurance on the preparation for the next ABET visit in fall 2022. He has more than 25 years of professional experience in information technology. He teaches the core courses in hardware and software systems for the Computer Science and Engineering programs.

Abualsaud’s research work has been presented at international conferences and journals. His research interests include health systems, wireless sensors for IoT applications, embedded systems, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and computer networks. He is active in getting research funding from various sources, including the QNRF, SCDL (FIFA’2022), and other organizations inside Qatar. He was the LPI of NPRP projects and is currently a PI in numerous internal research grants, which achieved significant outcomes. He is actively involved in many international research and industry-funded projects (over 1.5 million USD) encompassing contemporary issues related to his research interests. He has co-authored more than 105 publications in refereed conferences and journals.

Khalid received several awards from different local and international organizations. He holds 5 awards, one from the College of Engineering for his achievements and leadership, and 4 best paper awards from IEEE conferences IWCMC’19&23, ICIoT’20, and ISNCC’23, respectively.

Dr. Abualsaud has served as a TPC member and chair for various reputable IEEE conferences such as ICIoT’20, ICICT’21, GLOBCOM’21&22, ICC’21&22, and IWCMC’20-23. He served as a technical reviewer for different international IEEE, ACM, and Elsevier journals. He participated actively in organizing a respectable number of IEEE international conferences inside and outside Qatar. Recently Dr. Abualsaud served as a Guest Editor in the Connected Healthcare special issue at IEEE Network Magazine. He is currently an Associate Editor at the IET Quantum Communication Journal.
