Dr. Hisham Eid received his Ph.D. in 1996 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). During his study at UIUC, he had two fellowships for outstanding performance at the graduate level. He also received a number of prestigious international and national awards including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Thomas A. Middlebrooks award and Qatar University research award. His research has been focused within four areas: (1) shear strength measurement and behavior of geomaterials; (2) slope stability; (3) bearing capacity and settlement of foundations; and (4) soil structure interaction. Field and laboratory testing, analysis of case histories, and physical and numerical modeling have been utilized in his research. Dr. Eid has authored several high impact papers. Results of his research have been published in well-known text books (e.g., Soil Mechanics in Engineering Practice by Terzaghi, Peck, and Mesri) and utilized by several geotechnical engineering practitioners. He has also been involved as a consultant in major civil engineering projects in North America and the Middle East.
