HIST 220 – Epidemics Diseases in World History
Throughout history, diseases have claimed the lives of millions, yet the medical, social, economic and political impacts of such devastation are often under investigated. This course will address the historical, social and health related aspects of selected diseases and how they have shaped the medical practice, social, history, and influenced today’s societies. This course is open to all students planning to major in science, social sciences, health sciences, or arts and humanities. Students do not need a background in science, medicine, or history to take this course.

 

BIOM 422 Diagnostic Microbiology (2 CH) (1hr Lecture + 3hr Lab)
Various methods for the diagnosis of pathogenic bacteria isolated from different clinical specimens with emphasis on normal flora of the human body. Collection and handling of different pathological specimens. The antimicrobial sensitivity test. Prerequisite: BIOM 322

BIOM 496 Professional Development (3 CH) (3hr Lecture)
Study of the national, regional, and local professional associations related to biomedical sciences; professional certifications and licensure requirements; mechanisms and requirements for continuing education; broad knowledge of the topics emphasized in certification examinations. Prerequisites: Department Approval .

BIOM 497 Research Project (3 CH)
The student is directed to develop research project on a practical and/or theoretical subject in the field of Biomedical Sciences using scientific methods under the supervision of staff member. Prerequisite: Department Approval.

BIOM 620 Health Informatics (3 CH)
This course addresses the importance of information systems and information technology in improving decision‐making in healthcare organizations. The student will be exposed to the need for and uses of information technology in healthcare organizations, and how integrated, computer‐based information systems can lead to decisions that improve and better coordinate care, allow for better management of medical records and orders, increase the timeliness of care, improve cost controls, enhance supply inventory and management, and improve vendor contracting and management.
