Dr. Faris Tarlochan is a Program Coordinator and Professor in Mechanical Engineering. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where he was affiliated with the College of Engineering. His doctoral field of study involves mechanics of impact and crashworthiness of sandwich structures.

Dr. Faris’s research interests are in the areas of impact-blast mechanics, design methods, applied and computational mechanics, biomedical engineering and engineering education. His recent publications focus on new ideas of designing hip implants to reduce stress shielding. Dr. Faris is currently working on research related to the usage of Additive Manufacturing for both mechanical and biomedical applications. The research works of Dr. Faris and with his colleagues have been published in several high impact journals such as Materials and Design, Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, Composite Structures, Artificial Organs and Thin Walled Structures.

Dr. Faris is a registered Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council of UK. He is also a registered Professional Engineering with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. He had served the Malaysian Engineering Accreditation Council as a Program Evaluator. He is also a Fellow to the Institution of Mechanical Engineers UK and a member of ASME.
