My research interest falls into the following main areas:
- Water and wastewater treatment
- Application of advanced oxidation technologies as a pre or post treatment of waste water.
- Understanding the fundamental functionality of biofilms in wastewater treatment plants, with a particular focus on nitrifying biofilms exposed to long periods of very cold temperatures.
- Use of microalgae as advanced wastewater treatment for nutrients (N and P) and organic matter.
- Developing an in-line and real-time method to measure polymer concentrations in water and wastewater using a bench-top UV-vis spectrophotometer.
- Solar applications in water and waste water treatments
- Solar Thermochemical Fuel Production and synthesis of novel undoped and doped metal oxide nanoparticles via various synthesis approaches such as combustion synthesis, sol-gel method and co-precipitation method. The derived materials are characterized towards their physico-chemical properties and solar thermochemical fuel production ability in multiple cycles
- Study the effect of solar irradiation on the performance of lagoon wastewater treatment systems
- Development and application of nano-materials and catalysis in water and energy production.
- Application of nanoparticles and nanomaterial in developing innovative electro-oxidation systems for water and wastewater treatment
- Catalysts nanoparticles consisting of transition metals are synthesized and investigated for ethanol hydrogen generation. The mechanistic pathways on metal surfaces are being studied using FTIR to understand the metal ethanol adsorption and effect of individual metals in a multi-metallic systems.
