Japanese 1-JAPN 101 (CEFR-A1)

This course is an introduction to the Japanese language and culture, designed for those who have no experience learning Japanese. Instruction will be given on the four skills of language (reading, speaking, listening, and writing), yet emphasis will be placed on speaking in order to help students to acquire communicative skills for simple interaction with Japanese speakers.

Japanese 2-JAPN 102 (CEFR-A2)

This course is an introduction to the Japanese language and culture, designed for those who have completed absolute beginner’s level (=Japanese 1) or have equivalent knowledge of the Japanese language. Instruction will be given on the four skills of language (reading, speaking, listening, and writing), although the emphasis will be placed on speaking and listening in order to help students to acquire communicative skills for simple interaction with Japanese speakers, including teachers, exchange students, and business people. Lessons will be organized around everyday conversational topics, and students will learn vocabulary, expressions, and sentence structures to become able to meet basic communication needs in Japanese.
