Biography

Dr. Anton Popelka is a Research Associate at the Center for Advanced Materials of QU since 2013. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in 2012 from the Polymer Technology program of the Polymer Institute, Slovak Academy of Sciences in Slovakia. His present research is mainly focused on surface modification of different types of polymeric materials by atmospheric and low-temperature pressure plasma techniques, especially applicable in packaging, membranes, and biomedical applications. Dr. Popelka has authored/coauthored 1 U.S. patent, 5 book chapters, and over 130 peer-reviewed publications with more than 1500 citations and h-index 22. Moreover, Dr. Popelka has also participated in many international conferences and symposiums (about 30). He has also participated in and led many projects awarded by the QNRF, QU, and industry; these projects have mainly focused on modifying polymers with eco-friendly low-temperature plasma technology. Since 2024, he has been managing editor of Emergent Materials journal, Springer in partnership with Qatar University.
