Dr. Nawaz has a PhD in Ecology and an experience of 20 years in the field of wildlife research and conservation. His research focus is on understanding ecology, co-existence, and conservation issues of the wildlife in warm and cold deserts of the world. Deploying field and molecular techniques, he is trying to understand distribution pattern of sympatric wildlife species, factors that influence their occupancy at the landscape level, their niches, and sources and spatial pattern of human-carnivore conflicts.
He has published 65 peer reviewed papers, five book chapters, and several management-oriented reports. Dr Nawaz has presented his scientific work in 40 national and international conferences, and his scientific contribution is recognized through two international awards from the scientific community. He has also contributed to the management planning of various protected areas, capacity building of wildlife departments, and undertaken over 60 environmental assessment projects for the development sector.
