SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Amina Alkandari is a Ph.D. in Architecture with a Designated Emphasis in Global Metropolitan Studies from the University of California at Berkeley, specializing in the history of architecture and contemporary urbanization in developing countries with a focus on the Middle East and the Arab Gulf specifically.   She received her B. ARCH from the University of Miami (2005), M. ARCH in Architecture and Urban Design Studies from Syracuse University (2007), and M.S from the University of California at Berkeley (2010). Her Ph.D. dissertation focuses on Nation-Building and Modernity in Kuwait in the Early 20th century. Her Areas of Academic interest ranges from the History of Architecture and Urbanism in the Middle East, Housing, Nation-Building, Nationalism, Gender, Sexuality, and the Built environment.
