{"id":1777,"date":"2026-04-02T14:29:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T11:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qufaculty.qu.edu.qa\/telsayed\/?p=1777"},"modified":"2026-08-07T14:33:46","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T11:33:46","slug":"gave-a-talk-at-qu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qufaculty.qu.edu.qa\/telsayed\/gave-a-talk-at-qu\/","title":{"rendered":"Gave a talk at QU!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I gave a research lecture this Thursday at Qatar University titled &#8220;<strong><em>Beyond the &#8220;Red Pen&#8221;: Automated Correction of Arabic Articles for the Next Generation<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;, that presented my research team&#8217;s work on &#8220;Automated Correction of Student Essays Written in Arabic,&#8221; focusing on innovative technical aspects, practical applications, and potential societal impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I introduced our new Arabic essay dataset, &#8220;<strong>LAILA<\/strong>,&#8221; which comprises approximately 8,000 student essays from 24 Qatari secondary schools. This is the largest database available in this field, categorized across seven writing attributes. Next, I will present our innovative essay correction framework, &#8220;<strong>TRATES<\/strong>,&#8221; which achieves outstanding performance in both Arabic and English. Following this, I will showcase our online correction platform, &#8220;<strong>Qayem<\/strong>,&#8221; which can assist teachers in assessing students&#8217; Arabic writing proficiency.
