I received my B.A. (with Hons.), M.A., and Ph.D. in Islamic Studies (2002) from the University of Cambridge<\/a> and have taught Islamic Studies, Islamic civilization and history, Arabic and Syriac language and literature at the Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies (CAMES<\/a>), the American University of Beirut<\/a>, and at the Faculty of Oriental Studies (now FAMES<\/a>), University of Cambridge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My research interests include early Islamic Gulf history, Syriac Christian\u2010Muslim intellectual history, Abbasid intellectual history and Hindu\u2010Muslim intellectual encounters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My publications include a trilogy: The Syriac Writers of Qatar in the Seventh Century<\/a>; An Anthology of Syriac Writers from Qatar in the Seventh Century<\/a>; <\/em>and Dadisho Qatraya\u2019s Compendious Commentary on the Paradise of the Egyptian Fathers in Garshuni<\/a><\/em>. My latest QNRF project entitled \u201cA Preliminary Syriac, Aramaic and Arabic Lexical and Toponymical Survey of Beth Qa\u1e6draye produced two more publications: The Syriac and Arabic Lexicon of Hasan Bar Bahlul (Olaph-Dolath)<\/em><\/a> and Beth Qa\u1e6draye: A Lexical and Toponymical Survey<\/a><\/em>. I also authored a monograph on the Muslim polymath Ab\u016b Ray\u1e25\u0101n al-B\u012br\u016bn\u012b: The Birth of Indology as an Islamic Science. Al-B\u012br\u016bn\u012b\u2019s Treatise on Yoga Psychology<\/a><\/em> (Leiden: Brill), and my most recent publication with the Library of Arabic Literature (NYU Press) is entitled The Yoga Sutras of Pata\u00f1jali by Ab\u016b Ray\u1e25\u0101n al-B\u012br\u016bn\u012b<\/a><\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
