Biography

Dr Zachariah is an Associate Professor in the department of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice in the College of Pharmacy, where he is involved in unit coordination and teaching in the BSc and Masters program, and precepting students in the Drug Information rotation during the clinical PharmD program.

Dr Zachariah completed his MPharm and PhD at The University of Portsmouth UK, where in 2015 he was appointed Senior Lecturer and later a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His research focusses on integrating community pharmacy into the wider healthcare system and enhancing the pharmacists’ role in delivering evidence-based services to optimize patient care.

He has recently been successful in securing research funding in projects that aim to enhance medication safety including: an investigation to develop an intervention to reduce non-formulary prescribing of medications; researching the readiness of pharmacists to adopt a prescribing role; and studying the implementation determinants of patient-reporting adverse drug reactions.

Further to this, Dr Zachariah has published his research in high-impact international peer-reviewed journals; his most recent work includes a review of learning needs approaches adopted to inform continuing professional development activities for healthcare professionals, and patient activation and patient-reported outcomes of men from a community pharmacy lifestyle intervention after prostate cancer treatment.
