Farid Touati was born in Kebili, Tunisia, in 1962. He received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the “Ecole National d’Ingenieurs a Monastir, ENIT”, Monastir, Kebili, in 1988, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Nagoya Institute of Technology (NIT), Nagoya, Japan, in 1992 and 1995, respectively.
He has joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at Qatar University as Associate Professor in August 2010. He has over 20 years’ experience designing electronic systems for conventional and hard-environment applications in communications, telemetry, and signal processing. He has published more 170 papers in several international journals and conferences.
He is currently carrying out 6 QNRF/NPRP research grants at Qatar University (worth more than $7.0 million). Also, he has successfully carried out several grant projects in different countries in strategic areas like Bio-Engineering and Technology, Smart Irrigation, and Wireless Monitoring of Renewable Energy stations. arch Infrastructure, USA on “Integrated MEMS Photonics for Computer and Communication Systems: develop new integrated MEMS photonic devices and optical interconnection for parallel processing systems” in 2001-2004.
He has supervised many PhD theses and Master’s theses in renewable energy, communication electronics, optical communications, and biomedical engineering. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American physical Society (APS), the International Association of Science and Technology (IASTED) of USA. He is an Associate Editor of the IST Transactions of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering and IST Transactions of Renewable and Sustainable Energy.
