Dr. Sownd’s research focuses on pharmacist-involved care in conditions that contribute to metabolic syndrome such as cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, diabetes and obesity. He is currently investigating validation status of blood pressure monitoring devices sold in community pharmacies and pharmacist preparedness to be involved in home blood pressure monitoring. His research interests include use of digital technology for cardiovascular risk management.
He also has interest in advancing pharmacist education and their scope of practice. His research investigates community pharmacists knowledge and current practices on home-based medical devices.
In addition, he also conducts lab-based research on diabetes and metabolic diseases. He investigates the role of glyoxalase and methylglyoxal in obesity using 3T3-L1 adipocytes.
