Currently, a lecturer of English Education in the College of Education, QU. I have also worked in other respectful institutes with the rank of Assistant professor since 2005: Purdue University, USA; UAE University, UAE; and Al Ain University of Science and Technology, UAE where I was the chair of the English Education Department.

My specialties are teacher education and professional development, the teaching of composition and literature in secondary & elementary schools, critical pedagogy, adolescent literacies, and qualitative and narrative inquiry.

My publications appear in peer reviewed international journals that shed the light on common educational themes relevant to ESL and diversity. I published a chapter in a book titled Young Adult Literature and Adolescent Identity Across Cultures and Classrooms: Contexts for the Literary Lives of Teens (Routledge, Tailor & Frances 2010). More recently, I have presented a number of research papers in international   conferences which discuss themes relevant to the reading habits of Arab parents as well as the current challenges facing the word of Arabic children’s literature.

My current work explores intersections between home environment and young readers’ reading interest and competency.

Research Interests

  • Curriculum development, teacher education and professional identity development, critical pedagogy, the teaching of English language skills,
  • the evaluation of children’s and young adults’ literature, planning and designing emergent literacy methods and activities, and qualitative and narrative inquiry.
