Dr. Mohammad Roshun Paurobally

Associate Professor

B.Eng. Mechanical (1st class Honors), 1993 and Ph.D., Mechanical Engineering, The University of Western Australia, Australia, 1998.

Dr. Paurobally obtained his B.Eng. (Mechanical 1st class Honors) in 1993 and a Ph.D. in the field of Acoustics, Vibration and Control in 1998 both from The University of Western Australia (UWA). After working as a researcher and then as a Faculty at UWA, he joined the department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Qatar University in Fall 2015. He has taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in acoustics, dynamics, vibration and control systems for over twenty-five years and has been nominated for several Teaching Awards. In 2016 he received the excellence in teaching and research award from the College of Engineering at Qatar University (QU). Since joining QU, he also developed and taught mechatronics related courses, acoustics, and railway signaling. Dr. Paurobally is passionate about Engineering Education and in particular in identifying “Threshold Concepts” in core subjects. Apart from his teaching, he was instrumental in setting up the ASME student chapter at QU to promote student engagement within the discipline and the community.

Dr. Paurobally has a wide research interest encompassing the field of acoustics, vibration, vibration-based energy harvesting, control systems, mechatronics system design, condition monitoring and experimental design and analysis. Together with colleagues he holds two patents in the field of active noise control and energy harvesting. He has supervised 20 graduate students to completion and over 200 undergraduate project students during the last 15 years. He has actively participated in many industry funded research projects at QU including student grants, QU research grant, collaborative grants, NPRP, and IRCC grants. Dr Paurobally currently provides expert advice with colleagues overseas as a member of the Supervisory Advisory Board (SAB, DC 4, 5 and 11), through the IN-NOVA MSCA Doctoral Network project, “Active reduction of noise transmitted into and from enclosures through encapsulated structures”. Dr. Paurobally has published over 60 papers in reputable International journals and conference proceedings.

Dr. Paurobally has served the Department of MIE as the undergraduate mechanical engineering program coordinator from February 2018 to September 2023. During that time, he led Program review in 2018 which led to major curriculum changes. This was followed by the successful ABET re-accreditation in 2022. In Fall 2023 he transitioned to the graduate program coordinator role for the Mechanical Engineering Program until now. He has been the chair of several committees in the Department and college including curriculum, industry advisory board, recruitment, and ABET student assessment and graduate related. He received the award for “exceptional contributions to the Mechanical Engineering program and college’s progress”, College of Engineering, in Spring 2023. Dr. Paurobally is a member of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV) since 2008 and a current Director. He has been an organizing committee member for few international conferences and is a regular reviewer for reputable international Journals in his area of research interest. He is also member of Engineers Australia (EA) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
