SUMMARY

Mohammad A. Al-Ghouti, a professor of environmental chemistry at Qatar University, obtained his Ph.D. degree in applied analytical and environmental chemistry from the Queen’s University of Belfast – UK. Prior to joining Qatar University, he held several posts at the Royal Scientific Society – Jordan from 1997-2010. He also worked at Fahad Bin Sultan University – Saudi Arabia as a director of the Arts and Sciences Unit. At Qatar University, he served as undergraduate programs coordinator in the Biological and Environmental sciences. Currently, he is the academic coordinator for the sciences and applied sciences cluster in the college of arts and sciences. At Qatar University, Prof. Al-Ghouti was successful in securing funding for four NPRPs, eight UREPs, five QU internal, and three industrial projects. Prof. Al-Ghouti has supervised 17 MSc and 5 Ph.D. students.

The focus of his research is to prepare and modify the surface of adsorbents, weathered oil-polluted soils, petroleum products characterizations, treatment of produced water, polymers, and membranes, study the adsorption mechanisms and the influence on the chemical and physical characteristics on the remediation behavior on various environmental compartments, including areas of environmental chemistry, membrane coating, and technology, polymer, and membrane modification, controlling CaSO4 scaling and biofouling on reverse osmosis membrane, nanoparticles for water treatment, Municipal and Industrial Wastewater, chemometric, environmental remediation, cleaner production, extraction processes, natural adsorbent chemistry, nano-adsorbents, waste treatment, waste minimization, water and wastewater treatment and adsorption.

In total, Prof. Al-Ghouti has authored or co-authored over 198 peer-reviewed research publications in environmental sciences and environmental sciences-related journals and over 55 research abstracts and posters. In addition, Prof. Al-Ghouti has published two book chapters related to the field of environmental sciences. The current Google Scholar Citation h-index is 41; the i10-index is 98.

World’s Top 2% Scientists – Prof. Al-Ghouti has been listed among the top 2% of the most influential scientists in the world in all sciences, according to a study conducted at Stanford University based on the (Scopus) database for the years 2019 and 2020.

Prof. Al-Ghouti is awarded a Scopus Award 2009/Elsevier in April 2009 for his excellent scientific works as revealed in Elsevier’s Scopus database. Prof. Al-Ghouti is an Associate Editor, Journal of Chemistry, Hindawi; Associate Editor in Chemical Treatments (specialty section of Frontiers in Environmental Chemistry), in the Editorial Board of PLOS ONE, the International Journal of Information Systems and Social Change (IJISSC), the Journal of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Research Journal of Chemical Sciences, Advances in Analytical Chemistry (Scientific & Academic Publishing), Journal of Chemistry (Hindawi Publishing Corporation), ISRN Chromatography (Hindawi Publishing Corporation) and the Global Journal of Environmental Science and Technology. In addition, several training courses and workshops have been conducted on various topics by Dr. Al-Ghouti such as Effective Project Management, Design and Evaluation of Innovation Policy in Developing Countries, Leadership, Dealing with others, Negotiation skills, Communication Skills, Patent Drafting, Advanced Balanced Scorecard (BSC) workshop, and Business Innovation Workshop.
