Associate Professor of Islamic History at Qatar University. I completed in 2003 my PhD in Islamic History (Dundee, UK), and was awarded in 2008 the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (Pg CertTHE) from Dundee University, UK. Prior to joining Qatar University, I was a Visiting Senior Lecturer to the Department of Islamic History and Civilization: the University of Malaya-Malaysia, and before that he worked as a lecturer at the ALMI (University of Aberdeen – UK) from 2003- 2009. My teaching and research expertise lies in the areas of Islamic history, with a special interest in the history of Jerusalem, history of Muslim – Christian Relations and the Crusaders. I am the author of Islamic Jerusalem and Its Christians: A History of Tolerance and Tensions (IB Tauris Publishers, 2007 & 2013) as well as many articles on different aspects of Jerusalem, Islamic history, Christian-Muslim Relations and the study of Islam and Muslims. Additionally, as a major mark of recognition of his scholarly work, I was elected as a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) in May 2008 and a fellow of the Royal Historical Society (UK) in April 2009.
