Diverse research experience and interest: My primary research interests are in networking, ap- plied machine learning, and human development. My current research has a strong multi-disciplinary orientation and spans diverse areas such as algorithms, artificial intelligence (AI), data mining, big data, internet of things, machine learning, ethics of technology, AI ethics, pedagogy and learning, and using ICT for development (ICT4D).
Research publications: I have published a number of peer-reviewed papers in top quality journals and magazines—including publications in IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials (CST), IEEE Communication Magazine, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communication (JSAC), IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (TMC), and ACM Computing Surveys (CSUR)—in addition to publications in top IEEE and ACM conferences. Research funding and leadership: I lead the IHSAN lab at Information Technology University (ITU)-Punjab, Lahore. Previously, I directed the Cognet research lab at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) as its director. I have previously served as the director of the PTCL, Cisco, NUST IP-technology center of excellence. I have served as an editor for various journals including (1) IEEE Communications Magazine; (2) Springer Nature Big Data Analytics journal; (3) IEEE Access; and (4) Springer Human-Centric Computing and Information Sciences. I have won competitive grants from Facebook Research, Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), and Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Finally, I have extensive experience of successfully supervising research students (both post-graduate and undergraduate).
