Dr. Houcem Smaoui holds a Ph.D. and MBA in Finance from Laval University (Quebec, Canada). He’s currently an associate professor of finance at Qatar University. During his career, he took positions at the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (Dhahran, KSA), the American University in Dubai (Dubai, UAE), and the Tunis Business School (Tunis, Tunisia). He also served as a financial engineering specialist with the Ministry of Finance (Quebec, Canada). His research has focused on Privatization and Economic Reforms in Emerging Markets, Political Institutions, and Conventional and Islamic Banking. His research output includes more than 18 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Houcem has published papers in refereed journals including top Finance and Business journals such as the Journal of International Business Studies, the Journal of Financial Research, and the Emerging Markets Review.
