Dr. Hezam Y. Al-Awah, a Qatari national, is currently an Assistant Professor of Petroleum Geology at Qatar University’s Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences and Director of Foundation Program at Qatar University. Dr. Hezam received his BSc in Geology from Qatar University (1996), an MSc degree in Petroleum Geology from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas (2002), and a PhD degree from Royal Holloway, University of London, UK (2008). In 2009, Dr. Hezam joined Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre along with his work at Qatar University. In 2011, he joined the Carbonate Research Centre of Expertise, Shell in Netherland. In 2012, he moved to Development Subsurface Team at Qatar Shell Services Company as an Operations Geologist until 2018.
His research interests mainly focus on sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy, carbonate reservoir characterization and diagenesis.
Dr. Hezam has extensive experience in research, industry and academia, along with strong management skills developed through his academic and professional work.
Dr. Hezam is a board member of Qatar – Society of Petroleum Engineers and Qatar Geological Section. He is also a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Petroleum Engineers and British Sedimentological Research Group.
