{"id":6,"date":"2016-01-03T06:09:48","date_gmt":"2016-01-03T06:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qufaculty.qu.edu.qa\/dvarisco\/?page_id=6"},"modified":"2016-01-21T07:01:19","modified_gmt":"2016-01-21T07:01:19","slug":"biography","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/qufaculty.qu.edu.qa\/dvarisco\/biography\/","title":{"rendered":"Biography"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-37\" src=\"http:\/\/qufaculty.qu.edu.qa\/dvarisco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/232\/2016\/01\/dannajwaurra79-300x243.jpg\" alt=\"dannajwaurra79\" width=\"300\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"http:\/\/qufaculty.qu.edu.qa\/dvarisco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/232\/2016\/01\/dannajwaurra79-300x243.jpg 300w, http:\/\/qufaculty.qu.edu.qa\/dvarisco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/232\/2016\/01\/dannajwaurra79.jpg 427w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Daniel Martin Varisco<\/strong> is Research Professor and Coordinator of Social Science in the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.qu.edu.qa\/artssciences\/chss\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Center for Humanities and Social Sciences <\/a>at Qatar University.\u00a0 He serves as President of the American Institute for Yemeni Studies (<a href=\"http:\/\/aiys.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">AIYS<\/a>), editor-in-chief of <em>CyberOrient<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyberorient.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.cyberorient.net<\/a>) and editor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.springer.com\/social+sciences\/journal\/11562\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Contemporary Islam<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 He taught anthropology at Hofstra University for 23 years and chaired the newly formed Department of Anthropology.\u00a0 At Hofstra he was the Director of Middle Eastern and Central Asian Studies program. From 2002-2004 he served as President of the <a href=\"http:\/\/mes.americananthro.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Middle East Section<\/a> of the American Anthropological Association.
